John Omdahl obituary, Fillmore County Journal

December 27, 1944 – September 30, 2024

Bloomington — John Omdahl, 79, of Bloomington, formerly of Northfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Founder’s Ridge in Bloomington, after a 17 year battle with Parkinson’s disease and a recent stroke.

He was born in Decorah, Iowa, on December 27, 1944, to Aage and Muriel (Bye) Omdahl and grew up in Mabel, Minn. He graduated from Mabel High School in 1962 and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Winona State University. He went on to teach elementary school in Woodbury and Rochester, Minn. He received his master’s degree in elementary administration and entered the field as an elementary principal in Edgerton, Wis., in 1972. In 1976, the family moved to Waupun, Wis., where they lived for 29 years. After retirement, John and Marcia moved to Northfield, where they lived until 2021.

He was married to his loving wife Marcia for 60 years. To this union was born three sons: Chris- topher (Nancy) of Eden Prairie; Timothy (Terri) of Minnetonka; and Patrick (Pamela) of Andover. John was also the proud grandfa- ther of eight grandchildren: Eric (Annie), Lindsay (Ben) Pride- more, Nathan, Owen, Isabel, Andrew, Evan and Phoebe; and one great-granddaughter.

John was a very kind, gentle, and loving husband and father. John enjoyed family camping in Door County, trips out west, Dis- ney World, and Florida beaches. He enjoyed biking, golfing, and attending activities of his chil- dren and grandchildren. Christ- mas and birthdays were always special family events.

John is survived by his wife Marcia, his sons, brother Dick (Mary) Omdahl of Peshtigo, Wis., and his three nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2024, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1321 North Ave, Northfield, Minn., with Pastor Phil Ruud officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and a lunch will follow the service.

Memorials preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church, designated to the fund for a new sound system.
