John Harvey Peterson, 62, of Pepin, Wis., went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. He was born August 24, 1960, in Rochester, Minn., the son of Harvey and Marguerite (Meyer) Peterson.
He graduated from Wykoff High School. Following high school he attended and graduated from the Colorado School of Trade for gunsmithing. After graduation, John worked at Dale’s Gun Shop in Rochester. He then worked as a union carpenter in Rochester.
He met Deanna Anderson in 2007 and they were married on January 12, 2008, in Rochester, Minn. John and Deanna lived in Florida for 1 ½ years before moving to Huron, S. Dak., where they started their family. In 2014, they moved back to the Pepin area to be closer to family.
John did carpentry work and was a stay-at-home dad. He was very involved with his three children, spending time with them, taking them to school, dance lessons and other activities. He loved to go with his family to various antique tractor shows throughout the Midwest, where they enjoyed operating his Minneapolis tractor steam engine. He was an avid reader. He also loved working on his guns and hunting.
He was an active in the church, attending Bible studies and being a listener for AWANA.
John was a good and faithful husband and an amazing and godly father. He was a friend to all, thoughtful, hardworking, capable in several areas. He will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife Deanna, children Timothy, Mary and Gabriel, all at home; his mother Margie Peterson of Spring Valley, Minn., his father-in-law Dean Anderson of Durand, Wis., his sisters-in-law Tracey (Jon Mann) Anderson of Rochester, Minn., Beth (Kurt) Friedrich of Maiden Rock, Wis., and Maria (James) McLain of Peoria, Ariz.; his brother-in-law Steve (Martha) Anderson of Fall Creek, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Harvey, brother James, his mother-in-law Mary Anderson, and brother-in-law Timothy Anderson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Plum City Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Phillip Bloomdahl officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, Wis., and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
