Jerry Dahl

April 7, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal

Jerry Dahl obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Nov. 17, 1945 – March 17, 2025

Jerry Dahl, age 79, of Rushford, Minn., passed away March 17, 2025 at home, surrounded by family.

Jerry was born November 17, 1945, in Lanesboro, Minn., to Henry and Alette (Howe) Dahl. He was the youngest of three children. Jerry met his future wife, Joyce (Erdmann), their senior year at Rushford High School, class of 1963. The two wed on August 29, 1964. To this union, six children were born. Jerry worked for Madison Silo as a builder on the footing crew, and for Hart Creamery, before taking over the family farm in 1969. Farming and raising his family were truly Jerry’s passions and he took great pride in them. Jerry enjoyed every aspect of farming, from tending his herd to his crops. Free time was spent with hitting pop fly balls, or playing a game of horse in the barn with his kids. Jerry could be found in the bleachers cheering on his children, and later his grandchildren. He was so proud of them. Community was a huge part of Jerry’s life.

He enjoyed fellowship with neighbors, including many competitive Whist and Widow Whist card games. He was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. A long-time member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, Jerry served on the church council. In his later years, Jerry could be found at Stumpy’s “Table of Knowledge” and connecting with others. He enjoyed going for tractor rides, keeping an eye on the herd and most of all, spending time with family and friends. He especially looked forward to his frequent visits with his cousin, Larry Dahl.

Jerry is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Joyce; siblings Donna and Eldon (Jeanette), children Janel, Jonathan, Jamie, Jason, Josh and Laura; 19 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Daryl Oates.

A memorial service took place 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

The family would like to thank Good Shepherd Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice. In memory of Jerry, please consider donating to a memorial scholarship set up at Merchants Bank in Rushford for a FFA student.
