Jean Marie Halvorson

February 2, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Jean Halvorson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Jean Marie Halvorson, 74, of Lanesboro, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, surrounded by family at Gundersen Harmony Care Center in Harmony.

Jean was born July 26, 1946, in Lanesboro, to Leonard and Doris (Soiney) Peterson.  She grew up in Whalan and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1964.  On October 17, 1964, she married Jerome Halvorson at the Whalan Lutheran Church. They had one son, Jerome Jr. in 1965.

Jean worked for the Fillmore County Zoning office for over 30 years. She retired in 2005, but never rested. She was an active member of the Whalan Lutheran Church and V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, baking, spending time with family, and shopping trips.  Jean was always there to lend to a helping hand with fundraising for cancer, multiple sclerosis (MS), juvenile diabetes (JDRF), or any other person or organization that needed support.

Jean is survived by her son Jerome Jr. (Kim) Halvorson of Lanesboro, granddaughter Kiah Halvorson of Harmony, brother Dale (Sue) Peterson of rural Lanesboro, brother-in-law Johnny Halvorson of Whalan, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Doris, husband Jerome, brothers Lyle and LuVerne Peterson, and sister-in-law Rita Peterson. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to send a special thank you to all the staff at Harmony Care Center for their caring support to Jean over the years.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private memorial service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Whalan Lutheran Church in Whalan, with burial to follow. Social distancing and wearing a mask will be expected.

Online condolences are welcome at rileyfuneralhomes.com.

Dear Jerome, Kim, Kiah and extended family …especially Dale, we send our sympathy to all of you on this loss of Jeanie.
She was really very special to me and I was so fortunate to see her as often as I could when I had a chance to at the care center.
I loved her dearly. I just saw this notice and was not in the state to attend the service which I see is now over.. Take care.. Jeanie is now in Heaven and at peace. God bless you all.. Maureen and Dan
