Janice Marie Nelson

May 6, 2024 by Fillmore County Journal

Janice Nelson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Janice Marie Nelson, 80, passed away peacefully Easter Sunday at her home in La Crescent, Minn. She was surrounded by her loving caretakers and Mayo Hospice nurses.

Janice was born to her loving parents, James Emmanuel Nelson and Ida Marie (Larson) Nelson on July 13, 1943. She lived on the family farm in Houston until she was 18. At that time she was transferred to a care facility in Cambridge, Minn., for special care due to her seizures. Janice was moved closer to Houston County as care facilities became available. She lived in Caledonia, at Grove Street for many years and enjoyed the cozy home until last year. She moved to the Lancer House in La Crescent, following a brief hospitalization.

Janice was fortunate to have many loving caretakers during her life and she loved working at ABC works in Caledonia, Freeburg and La Crescent.

After work, she loved to have a snack and take a nap. She loved her house cat Millie. Janice attended church periodically and during the pandemic, she enjoyed watching the church service on TV.

She is survived by her brother Richard (Marion) Nelson of Houston, nephew Timothy (Johanna) Nelson and their children Ella, Vera and Eddie of Tutaryd, Sweden; niece Richelle (Nathan) Ackerman and their son Reid of Arkansaw, Wis.; roommates Azaria, Renee, Diane and Kara Ann; and roommates from Caledonia, Lisa and Michelle.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and former roommate, Diane.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at ABLE Inc. in Caledonia, and the Lancer House in La Crescent, Mayo doctors and nurses, Mayo Hospice and her special 2:2, Rita Noel.

A service to honor and remember Janice will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Steven Meyer will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch to follow.

A private burial will be held at Stone Church Cemetery, Houston.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, is assisting the family.
