James McGhie obituary, Fillmore County Journal

James “Jim” W. McGhie, age 90, of Preston, Minn., died on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Traditions of Preston.

Funeral services for Jim will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2023, with Pastor Kay Wold officiating, at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Visitation will begin at noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. Burial with military honors will be held following the service, at Sumner Presbyterian Cemetery. 

James William McGhie was born on April 19, 1933, son of William R. and Blanche E. (Horsman) McGhie in Fillmore County, Minn., near Wykoff.  Jim attended country school and graduated from Wykoff High School. Following his graduation, Jim worked for Tovy’s Grocery then Paul Lynch Grocery Store, both of Chatfield, Minn. Jim liked attending car races and dog races. He was a sports fan and enjoyed going to sporting events. 

Jim is survived by his sister Loretta Knutson of Austin, Minn. 

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Blanche McGhie, brother Elmer McGhie, sister Thelma (Boyd) Baker, and niece Frances Meeker.
