James “Jim” Russell Casey, 70, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Linn Haven Nursing Home in New Hampton, Iowa.
Jim was born in Harmony, Minn., to Ronald and Carol (Gager) Casey on October 24, 1953. He went to school in Harmony and graduated in 1971. He attended Rochester Area Vocational Institute and graduated with a degree in cooking. His first job was at the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park as a dinner chef, then to Flamingo Point in Everglades National Park. Jim went to Texas and central Florida, then moved to the Florida Keys and worked at various restaurants. From Florida he went to Pennsylvania, then to Elma, Iowa. He entered Linn Haven in New Hampton on October 11, 2021.
In 2000, Jim planned the Casey Family Reunion to honor his parents and gave all that attended “Casey T-Shirts.” It was held in Cresco, Iowa, until his parents passed away and is now held in Glencoe, Minn.
Jim enjoyed sports such as baseball and football, especially the Twins and the Vikings. He also enjoyed NASCAR.
Jim is survived by two sisters, Verna Stockdale of Spring Valley, Minn., and Judy Graves of Gifford, Penn., five brothers: David, Tom and Jason, all of Minnesota, John of Iowa and Joe of Wisconsin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Carol (Gager) Casey, brothers-in-law Phil Graves and Gareld Stockdale, and sister-in-law Melissa Casey.
A visitation will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with a prayer service from 3:30-4 p.m. at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, Minn. Burial will be held at a later date in the Saetersdal Church Cemetery.
