James Jay Van de Mark, 68 of Chatfield, Minnesota, passed away at his home, August 23, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
James was born to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Van de Mark of Austin, Minnesota, on February 7, 1958. The family moved to Wisconsin and eventually to Iowa, where they settled in Fostoria, Iowa. James attended school in Milford until the death of his mother in 1974, at which time he moved to Chatfield, Minnesota, to live with his brother Gary Van de Mark. James graduated from Chosen Valley High School in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Doyle Tarrence and Gary Van de Mark.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wayne Stephas (Dorothy Tarrence) and Mrs. Wyatt Goldsmith (Judy Van de Mark).
James was a truck driver by trade. He enjoyed riding motorcycle and was an Abate member for many years. He was known as Santa to many over the course of 47 years. James was also a member of AA and offered his assistance and guidance as did those who supported him over the years.
We wish to thank Mayo Hospice and Mayo Clinic Rochester for their care and support of Jim and his home care aides during a very difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at Groen Park in Chatfield, Minnesota, on Saturday, September 12, from noon to 3 p.m. A lunch will be provided. It is asked that you bring your own chair. The wearing of leather and Santa hats is encouraged.
