Jacquelyn Rask

July 5, 2023 by Fillmore County Journal

Jacquelyn Rask obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Jacquelyn Rose (Schaller) Rask, age 88, of Freeburg and Caledonia, passed away peacefully at Gundersen Health Systems on June 28, 2023.

Jackie was born on November 26, 1934, in Houston County, Minn., the oldest daughter of William and Blanche (Schuldt) Schaller. Jackie was baptized into faith at Peace United Church of Christ, Freeburg, Minn. On June 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald Rask, at Peace United Church of Christ, in Freeburg, Minn.

Jackie went to school in Freeburg, Minn, until the eighth grade, when she then stayed home at the farm in Freeburg to help and take care of her mother and her younger six siblings, and loved to be outside helping her father with the animals.

During her younger years, Jackie babysat and cleaned houses, and worked at the Redwood Cafe in Caledonia, Minn., under three or four different owners for a total of 35-plus years as a main cook.

She loved watching ducks and birds, did many embroidery (fancy work) projects and loved being around friends and family. She didn’t smile a lot, if you could get her to smile, it was the biggest brightest smile ever. The great-grandkids could simply just be by her and put a huge smile on her face. She was a hard worker and loved what she did.

Jackie is survived by her four children: David (Brenda) Rask, Nancy Rask, Carol (Paul) Schansberg and Darryl Rask; nine grandchildren: Nick (Kasey) Rask, Joe (Wendy) Rask, Brandon (Misty) Rask, Carissa (special friend Cameron), Jason Schansberg, Mike (Becky) Schansberg, Chris (Jamie) Schansberg, Kelly (Adam) Gaustad and Jacob Rask; 14 great-grandchildren: Brayden, Jayden and Kayden Rask; Jeanette, Michaela and Samantha Rask; Leon, Emealia, Calum and Bohdi Rask; Jonathan, Tyler, Dustin Schansberg and baby Schansberg (due in August 2023), and Weston Schansberg; also by five siblings: Qwen Schaller, Bob (Bev) Schaller, Connie Ranzenburger, Jeannie Gran and Shirley (Tom) Richards; and many nieces and nephews.

Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law Carl and Anna Rask, husband Donald, sister Ila, brothers- and sisters-in-law David Ranzenburger, Arlen Gran, Berdella and Harris Lien, Gladys and Ted Kuecker, Alvina Rask, Clarise Lien, Doleres Rask, Orville and Elna Rask and Raymond and Lila Rask; and nephew Danny.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Monday, July 3, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 419 E Grove Street, Caledonia, Minn. Visitation was from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Lunch was served immediately following the service in the church, with burial taking place at Wilmington Lutheran Church Cemetery, 21068 Church Road, Spring Grove, Minn.

Fredrickson Funeral Homes, Caledonia Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
