Irene Lou Vigeland, 88, of Newburg, Minn., passed away peacefully Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, Minn.
Irene was born July 1, 1929, in the Township of Canton, Minn., to Olaf and Clara (Peterson) Lysgaard. She attended the Newburg School. On July 5, 1947, she married Arden Vigeland in Lanesboro, Minn. Arden preceded Irene in death on July 11, 1992. They lived and farmed in Preble Township until 1967 when they moved to Mabel. In 1984 they moved to Newburg where she had resided since. After moving to Mabel, she worked for Control Data and Northern Engraving in Spring Grove for 16 years. She also worked for Norseland Kitchen Lefse in Harmony, Minn., for four years. She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being outside. She also enjoyed her companionship with her dogs.
Irene is survived by two children, Arlene (Darrell) Sinclair of Stewartville, Minn., and Richard (Lisa) Vigeland of Alma, Wis.; grandchildren Robert Sinclair, Julie (Mike) Drees, Josh (Jessica) Vigeland, and Jeremy (Linda) Gerard; several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sons, Arnold and Roger Vigeland; and sisters Bertha Bjergum, Lillian Haagenson, Dorothy Inglett, and Gertie Bakkum.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. The Mengis Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
