The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office would like the public to be aware that we are seeing an increase in scam activity. Some of the scams have involved spoofed phone numbers where caller ID will show a legitimate business, sometimes even local government phone numbers. The caller then demands payment by reloadable prepaid cards such as Apple iTunes cards. The callers can be pushy and threatening. Please be aware that government agencies and legitimate businesses do not take payment in this manner. There are many types of scams, If you feel you have been targeted by a scam contact the Sheriff’s Office at (507) 765-3874 before sending payment or following through with the caller’s demands.
