Ida June Arndt, 87, of Chatfield, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Ida was born October 19, 1939, to Elmer John Hart and Gladys (Blomgren) Hart in Lime Springs, Iowa.
As a child, she attended Lime Springs country school and later attended and graduated from the Lime Springs Public School in 1957.
On May 12, 1957, Ida married her high school sweetheart, Eugene (Gene) Arndt, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lime Springs, Iowa. Four children: Peggy, Marjorie, Jay and Mark arrived in the next seven years and livened up their family. She felt doubly blessed when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived.
A caregiver at heart, Ida spent her life caring for others. Caregiving for family, friends, pets, and most especially the elderly was her true passion. She worked for 30-plus years at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minnesota, first as a CNA and eventually as a nurse after additional training at the area technical college. Ida cared for the residents with grace, patience, and dignity. She had a special gift for making the residents feel safe, loved, and cared for. This dedication earned Ida the honor of being chosen as the Southeast Minnesota Caregiver of the year in 2001.
During her free time, Ida was happiest in her jeans and denim jacket surrounded by her flower beds, vegetable garden, pets and family.
Ida is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband Gene, her daughter Marjorie (Lowell) Dohlman, son Mark Arndt, son-in-law Frank James, sister Linda Musty, brother Larry (Deb) Hart, and her brothers and sisters-in-law Richard Arndt, Marvin Arndt, Melva Hart, Ken and Kathy Arndt, James and Gayle Arndt; and her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Peggy James, her son Jay Arndt, her brother Dale Hart, her parents Elmer and Gladys Hart, and her in-laws Edwin and Gladys Arndt.
