The last race of the cross-country regular season took place in Plainview at Piper Hills Golf Course, the “Jodi Rahman” Invite. Area schools LARPH, Kingsland, Chatfield, and L/FC all competed. On the boy’s side, Kingsland’s Garrison Hubka was the man. The Knight senior has had a fluctuating year. He exerted himself too much and couldn’t finish the Mayo Invite, then didn’t run at the Chatfield meet. But he’s still in running shape. Kingsland’s top runner bested the field (17:07.4) at PEM, topping nearest foes Braxton Osterhus of Pine Island (17:14.5) and Cole Arens W-K (17:16.5). It was Hubka’s third first place, tying GMLOS’s McKenna Hendrickson for most race wins for a “Journal 11” athlete this year. Knight Cole Kruegel was also strong, taking sixth place (17:36.6). He was right ahead of LARPH’s Ryan Prinsen (7th > 17:39.6) and LFC’s Isaac Snyder (8th > 17:41.8). LARPH as a team took second (74) to Cotter (63) while beating Stewartville (74) by sixth runner tiebreaker. Kingsland took fifth, Chatfield seventh, and LFC 11th (of 11). Pine Island, W-K, St. Charles, PEM, and D-E also competed. Joining Prinsen in the top 25 for LARPH were Tyler Betthauser (14th > 18:09.3), Brennan Kunst (15th > 18:10.4), Matthew Sprague (16th > 18:12.4), and Isaac Rasmussen (22nd > 18:52.3). Gabe Erding (20th > 18:47.6) and Treyton Lanning (25th > 18:58.8) led Chatfield. Knight Andrew Imm (21st > 18:49.7) also made the top 25. Seventy-three guys ran the 5,000-meter race. On the girls side, PEM (50) took first over Cotter (54) and Chatfield (78). The Gophers top runner Lexi Kivimagi didn’t run. LFC took sixth and Kingsland ninth (of nine complete). LARPH was incomplete. Cotter had the top two runners, Sonja Semling (19:14.4) and Hazel Freyre (20:55.3). Gopher Aletta Strande (5th > 21:26.9) was the top “Journal 11” athlete, just ahead of LFC’s Lillyan Kiehne (6th > 21:30.7). Gopher Ella Bakken (9th > 21:45.4) also finished top 10. Finishing top 25 were Gophers Charlotte Oeltjen (15th > 22:31.5) and Savannah Thompson (20th > 22:49.9), Kingsland’s Kylie Meyer (22nd > 22:59.8), and LARPH’s Ellie Ekern (24th > 23:17.3). Sixty-six total gals competed. The C-C season is down to the TRC, 1A Meets, and state meet.
