Hot Shots

April 15, 2019 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - Fillmore County Sports

Drew Copley led GMLOK baseball to two wins to start the season (See Athlete of the Week).  Caiden Olson had a huge game, hitting for the cycle, driving in 6 runs, four on a grand slam home run, as Houston beat M-C 17-7 in baseball.  The Hurricanes had ten extra base hits at Mabel’s fence-less field.  Max Aug hit a 3-run home run to headline Chatfield’s 14-3 win over Z-M.  Seth Allen added two doubles and 4 RBI.  Lincoln Salisbury also had a 3-run home run, though the Gophers lost 11-6 to D-E.  Lilly Hughes struck out 14 and pitched a one-hitter to lead GMLOK softball past Houston 3-1 in a pitchers dual.  Richelle Botcher struck out nine in defeat.  Emma Breitsprecher tallied four total firsts (100-H, 300-H, P-Vault, 4×400) to lead LFCMC girls track to a team win at the five-squad RPH Invite.  Carson Kiehne had three firsts for the Burro guys (100, 200, 4×200).  Ben Wieser (Shot, Disc) swept the throw events.  He then duplicated that feat at the Cal/SG Invite two days later.  Teammate Kaleah Davis took three of four throw events at said Invites.  Kjersta Hinz (H-Jump) and the Tro-Cane girls 4×100 (Hinz, Alyvia Eide, Jenny Albrecht/Kaitlyn Bieberdorf, Allison Papenfuss) also won twice over those meets.
