Southland’s boys beat Spring Grove 58-49 to end the Lions’ 41-game SEC winning streak. SG did sandwich wins over L/P 59-38 and Class AA #16 J-W-P 64-58 around that loss. The #18 Lions (5-1, 7-1) lead the SEC-East over Houston (3-4, 5-5) and M-C (3-4, 4-7). FC’s boys (1-5, 5-6) had a wild week. Despite leading 51-37 in the second half, they fell 80-76 in two overtimes to Goodhue. Jayce Kiehne had 23 points, Luke Hellickson 21. FC then nipped Triton 63-62 and beat D-E 72-62, coming back from down 37-28 at halftime to do so (first TRC victory). Greg Kennedy hit the go-ahead free throw versus the Cobras and had a big game (24 pts, 10 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls, 4 blks) versus the Eagles. Hellickson added 20 points versus D-E. Lewis Doyle scored 20 points as #5 in AA Caledonia beat W-K 75-55. The Warriors, minus Ethan Stendel, then fell to Lake City 79-54. La Crescent (5-0, 8-4) and the Warriors (4-0, 9-2) lead the TRC-East. Camden Hungerholt had 34 points as L-O beat G-E 67-54. Hungerholt then had 27 and brother Reid Hungerholt 24 as the Cardinals (5-1, 5-6) beat L/P 71-58. Morgan Rohweder scored 22 as Houston beat Lanesboro 55-51. The Hurricanes (3-4, 5-5) ended a six-game losing streak to the Burros and have matched last year’s win total. Mason Howard scored 23 and Levi Rogers 21 as Lanesboro then beat M-C 75-62. Cayden Tollefsrud scored 31 in defeat. Cohen Craft scored 21 but GM fell to Hayfield 68-42. Kinley Soiney scored 20 including topping 1,000 for her career as Spring Grove’s girls beat L/P 64-18. Houston beat Wisconsin schools Westby 68-31 and Blair-Taylor 64-52. Aubry Boldt scored 26 in the latter game. The Lions (5-0, 9-2) and Hurricanes (4-0, 7-5) are the SEC’s two league-unbeaten teams. Lexy Foster notched her seventh double-double (23 pts, 10 rebs) as GM beat Schaeffer 64-43. Lauren Queensland added 16 (pts), 7 (rebs), and 9 (asts). She scored 22, but the Larks fell to #3 in A Hayfield 62-50 in a re-match of last year’s 1A title game. Ellie Ekern scored 22, but R-P (3-3, 8-5) fell to PEM 51-46. At The Clash XXI, Caledonia/Houston seniors Owen Denstad (#2 in AA at 145) and Isaac Blocker (#5 at 152) were two of 46 wrestlers from 32 teams to go 6-0. Warrior junior Braxton Lange also picked up his 100th career win at the event.
