The girls basketball season opened with Chatfield notably posting wins over Lanesboro 63-31 and Southland 72-35 at the St. Charles early-season tourney. Anna Kivimagi had 22 points versus the Burros, Shea Jech 20 points versus the Rebels. Lanesboro beat St. Charles night two, as Kaci Ruen and 26 points and 11 rebounds. Fillmore Central’s Bryce Corson (Sr. WR/RB) and Chatfield’s Sam Backer (Sr. QB/RB/S) have been chosen to play in the 2022 Minnesota High School All-Star game, scheduled for Saturday December 10 at U.S. Bank Stadium. It is a prestigious honor. They are two of 44 players on the South roster, which will take on the 44-man North roster. Other notable small school area players on the South team are Tyson Cooreman (Randolph) and Adam Poncelet (Goodhue). Additionally, Chatfield’s Backer is one of 10 players to be nominated for Mr. Football 2022.
