Lanesboro’s Seth Semmen and Rushford-Peterson’s Carson Thompson have each been named Scholar Athletes by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. This award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic, and community service achievements. Semmen and Thompson are two of just eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during this summer’s Minnesota Football Honors show. Semmen was thrice All-District and carries a 3.982 GPA. Thompson was twice All-District and carrier a 4.0 GPA. Rushford-Peterson softball opened the season with a high-scoring walk-off win over Mabel-Canton. The Trojans got the game-tying RBI from Lindsey Hoiness and the walk-off RBI double from Brooke Johnson in the bottom of the seventh to beat M-C 15-14. The Cougars trailed 9-3 at one point, but led 14-13 heading to the last 1⁄2 inning. Aviana Anderson-Ingram was 4-for-5 to lead R-P. Gwen Tollefsrud was 3-for-6 with three RBI and three runs in defeat. Caledonia’s Libby Jilek took third (girls) and GMLO’s Taylor Glynn took fourth (boys) at the Hayfield Golf Invite. Brianna Stemper was 4-for-4 with two extra base hits, Amber Stemper and Madisyn Tessmer each hit home runs, as Caledonia/Spring Grove softball beat La Crosse Aquinas 13-1 at the Onalaska-Luther four-team tourney. Caledonia’s Libby Jilek took third (girls) and GMLO’s Taylor Glynn took fourth (boys) at the Hayfield Golf Invite.
