April 24, 2023 was a historic afternoon – the first home softball game in 39 years for a stand-alone Spring Grove team. The 25-0 loss to Class AA La Crescent-Hokah was the Lions’ fourth game of the season, but the first shutout. The Grove girls (0-4) had two base hits and four total base runners. Two batters hit by a pitch was the only charity offered by winning pitcher Kaitlyn Miller, and the Lancers played without errors.

Both Spring Grove hits came in the second inning, a lead-off single by Addyson McHugh who advanced to second base on a two-out single by Emerson Ingvalson. Two other Lions reached base in the next inning with both lead-off Lydia Solum and Katelyn Kraus (with two outs) being hit by a pitch. But again, no one advanced past second base.
La Crescent-Hokah (6-2) was in control from the outset, plating 13 runs in the first half-inning. On the afternoon, the Lancers banged out 18 hits, including a pair of triples and three doubles. The action ended with the 15-run-rule after four innings.
