 Henry “Hank” Ostby

Henry "Hank" Ostby obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Henry “Hank” Ostby, 88, of Chatfield, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Stewartville Care Center.

Hank was born May 27, 1932, to Ivy and Heinrick Ostby.  Hank grew up with six siblings.  In January 1951, Hank joined the U.S. Navy, where he was a cook and baker on the USS Greene, before bring honorably discharged in November 1954.

On June 8, 1956, Hank married Mary Lou Mahan of Lime Springs, Iowa.  They raised twosons, Terry and Tom.  Hank worked for Peoples Natural Gas at many locations, before settling in Chatfield in 1981.  He loved to cook and bake for everyone.

He is survived by a son, Terry (Rhonda) Ostby of Chatfield; daughter-in-law Jenny Ostby of Decorah, Iowa; four grandchildren: Bryan (Lisa) Ostby of Fountain, Chris (Nikki) Ostby of Chatfield, Holly (Lincoln) Kreofsky of Plainview, and Henry Ostby of Minneapolis; seven great-grandchildren: Terron, Rylan, Taylor, and Deegan, Makynli Ostby, and Maryn and Waylon Kreofsky; and his dog Mike. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Lou (1995), and son Tom.

The family would like to thank Chuck and Pat Karver and Tami Asher for their kindness and helping Hank out.

A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 1 p.m., at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in Lime Springs, Iowa.
