Harvey “Hal” Andrew Hetland

September 17, 2024 by Fillmore County Journal

Harvey "Hal" Hetland obituary, Fillmore county Journal

Harvey “Hal” Andrew Hetland, age 85, went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2024, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, Minn.  He was born in Mitchell, S. Dak., and was the oldest of two boys ( brother David) to Archie and Rachel Hetland.

Hal was a devoted family man and a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and son.  After graduating from Mitchell High School, he enlisted into the United States Air Force where he developed lifelong friendships.  After his discharge from the Air Force, he moved to California where he met his future wife, Patricia Randall.  It was Hal and Pat’s dream to live in the country at the end of a dead-end road.  It was this desire that brought them to the beautiful town of Houston, Minn., where they enjoyed raising their family and caring for the land.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Pat) of 60 years, two daughters, Patrice (Chad) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Tiffany (Paul) Barth of Raleigh, N. C., along with granddaughters Angelika Barth, Astrid Barth, and grandsons Axel Barth, Gunnar (Savannah) Nelson and Tor Nelson.

There will be a memorial service for Hal on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 3 p.m., with visitation and reception following at 4 p.m. at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, 301 South Ellsworth, Houston, Minn.

Hoff Funeral Home in Houston, Minn., is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking you make donations, if you wish, to the following charities in honor of Hal:

•Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org/

•Tunnel to Towers Foundation t2t.org/

•Pheasants Forever www.pheasantsforever.org/default.aspx

We are so very grateful for the love, care and wisdom of Dr. Peter Franta, and his care team at Mayo Clinic, as well as the teams of Valley View Healthcare and Rehab and St. Croix Hospice.

Words cannot express how deeply we appreciate all the love and support shown to our family during this difficult time.  We are incredibly grateful and will always remember your kindness.
