Harriet was born on September 10, 1942, in Spring Valley, Minn., to Harry and Frances (Bornfleth) Lex. Harriet grew up around Spring Valley near Mystery Cave, where she and her six siblings were raised by their Aunt Loretta and Uncle George Tart after the death of their mother. After graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1961, she worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. On January 28, 1967, she was united in marriage to Gerald Truman; to this union were born two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer.
Harriet thrived in her role as wife, mother and homemaker. She was a faithful companion to her husband and worked side by side with him to raise bees and harvest honey. In her free time, she grew many large gardens which she canned and froze to provide for her family. She was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. Her family enjoyed the many delicious meals she created for them. Harriet was a skilled woman in many areas of her life, but she will be remembered most for her fierce devotion and love for her family.
Harriet is survived by her husband Gerald, children Jeffrey (Char Nelson) and Jennifer (Harold) Jensen, grandchildren Crystal (Nick) Peterson, Sterling (Tayler Hoeft), Mallory (Paul Gonzalez), Lauren (Samuel) Back, Nicholas (Haley) Jensen, and Renae (Stephen Thomas); seven great-grandchildren; siblings Carol Marie (Roger) Reicks, Laura (Charles) Frank and Shearam Lex; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Gust Lex, Loren Lex and Eleanor Eggerichs.
Harriet’s family would like to extend a special thanks to all her wonderful caregivers from Howard County Community Hospice, the staff at Regional Health Services of Howard County, and to the staff of Hindt-Hudek Funeral Homes for your care.
