Harold Meyer obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Harold N. Meyer, 94, of Eitzen, Minn., passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at Claddagh Senior Living & Memory Care in Caledonia, Minn.

Harold was born on July 5, 1931, in New Albin, Iowa, to George H. and Ella (Reinke) Meyer. He attended rural country schools and served in the U.S. Army several years.

Harold married Eunice (Diersen) on May 5, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Caledonia, Minn. Together, they raised three children: Wayne, Christine and Kari. Harold farmed for his entire life and farming was one of his greatest passions, as long as he was in a John Deere tractor! Harold owned and operated the Eitzen Farm Store for several decades. He was involved in many community organizations including the Eitzen Lions Club as a Charter member, Wilmington Mutual Insurance Company, Winnebago Township board, Farm Bureau, Wheatland State Liners 4-H club, and an active member of St. John’s UCC.

Harold was extremely hospitable and generous. He loved spending time with his family, playing cards, square dancing, and fishing. Harold and Eunice enjoyed traveling together.

Harold is survived by his wife Eunice, children: Wayne (Laura) Meyer of Eitzen, Minn.; Christine (David) Jorde of Eyota, Minn.; and Kari (Daniel) Alstad of Spring Grove, Minn.; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Amber Jorde of Rochester, Minn.; Devin (Michael) and Nolan Heiling of Rochester, Minn.; Aubrey (Kanema) Kaumba of Savage, Minn.; Colin (Kaylee) and Lenora Jorde of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Brooke (Ryan) Colton, and Bennett Eppen of Chatfield, Minn.; Derek (Taylor) and Tate Johnson of Lonsdale, Minn.; and Elizabeth (Andy) and Madelyn Houdek of Caledonia, Minn.; and brother-in-law Ivan (Linda) Diersen.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law Albert and Esther Diersen; siblings Esther (Paul) Breeser (Walter Neuman), Fremont (Evelyn) Meyer, and infant brother Raymond Meyer; sister-in-law Ardyce (Curtis) Wild, son-in-law Mark Johnson, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Allen Hanson, St. Croix Hospice, and Claddagh Senior Living staff for all of the love and care provided to Harold.

A visitation was held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Eitzen Community Center and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

A funeral service took place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 11 a.m., at St. John’s United Church of Christ (Wheatland), rural New Albin, Iowa, with Pastor Allen Hanson officiating. Burial with military honors followed at the church cemetery. A luncheon was served at the Eitzen Community Center.

Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.FredricksonFuneralHomes.com.
