At the July 14 Harmony City Council meeting, the consent agenda was approved and included the minutes of the special and regular meetings on June 9, the claims and June checks, the investment report and cash balances, the budget year-to-date, and an annual step increase for Financial Clerk Karen Apenhorst.
Pay request #7 in the amount of $103,306.80 for the wastewater treatment plant was reviewed, and the council approved it.
Resolution 26-07 regarding the appointing of the election judges was approved.
A number of bids were received for the lead service line replacement project. The low bid from H&M Underground Solutions in the amount of $88,150 was approved. Twenty-six total service lines in Harmony have been identified as needing to be addressed; ten of those will be replaced by H&M. As Harmony has been earmarked to receive $250,000 in grant funds for lead line replacements, the council also approved a second phase for the project during which more lines can be replaced.
The second draft of the Data Center ordinance is ready to review. City Attorney Greg Schieber recommended holding another joint planning session to go over it. The council approved a joint planning session on August 5 at 6 p.m. at the community center. The council also requested that it be posted on the city’s Facebook page as well as the usual posting spots. To avoid the meeting going too late into the evening, questions and comments from the public will not be accepted at that time, but there will be forums for those at a later date.
The council discussed how to sell the city’s old public works truck. Council member Jesse Grabau recommended listing it on Wisconsin Surplus as the city has used it in the past. The council approved selling the truck on Wisconsin Surplus. The listing will be shared on the city’s Facebook page in case any locals are interested in bidding on the truck.
The Harmony EDA discussed ideas and options for providing school age care in Harmony. One option talked about was using space in the community center. The EDA will continue to gather information on the matter.
Around 80-100 people attended the first Back Alley Jam of the summer. Over $1,500 was raised for the Harmony Area Chamber of Commerce at the first Ladies Bingo Night at the golf club which was attended by 50 women. The annual golf tournament is being planned. Kelley Collins has been working three days per week as the interim HACC director. The Chamber is planning to finalize the job description and hopefully hire a new director in September.
Council member Tara Morem gave a report on the Harmony Public Library board. They were awarded a grant from POET and are exploring options for hands-on learning opportunities at the library with the funds.
