Thirteen of the 14 Lions were credited with rebounds as the Spring Grove girls pounded Postville (Iowa), 63-18 in the annual Minnesota-Iowa Border Battles in Decorah. It was a mismatch from the get-go, and the Pirates (1-5) did not score in the second quarter on the way to a 48-7 halftime avalanche. They added only two points in period three and overall, had more turnovers (34) than shot attempts (29). And when Postville did shoot, there was very meager success (14%).
Kinley Soiney put in 17 points for Spring Grove, only one fewer than the entire Pirate team. Emerson Ingvalson added 9 points and had game-highs with 5 assists and 4 steals. The Lions improved to 3-1 this season and now have a 4-3 record in their seven Border Battle appearances.
