As I pen this commentary, I’m watching the Winter Olympics. The abilities of these athletes are amazing to watch.
This past weekend I watched Super Bowl 60. Along with the game itself, the commericals and halftime show are always an interesting part of this Sunday football finale. Let’s discuss the commercials first. With all the AI ads, the Old Soldier lost interest quite quickly. It seems that AI is overwhelming our culture, just as the dot-com did a number of years ago.
The ones I enjoyed the most were the Budweiser – Clydesdale and the baby eagle. Also, the little girl in the Lays potato chip segment was well done. There were others that featured animals that were very watchable.
As the halftime show began, I really didn’t know what to expect from an artist name Bad Bunny. As I’m probably not as well versed in pop culture as many of you are, my opinion of the act is summed up by the first part of his name, “Bad”!!
As the show progressed, it became apparent that none of it would be done in our English language. If I had been aware of an alternate show on a different network, I probably would have watched that, which would have reduced the number of trips to the pantry and refrigerator. I also recently found out the Jay Z produced the show and has a contract to produce several more. Oh, boy!!
As I move on, let’s briefly discuss immigration. While we must enforce our laws, we could use a slightly slower, more measured approach with more respect and compassion on both sides of this issue.
While the investigation continues into the alleged fraud at the State level, we can only hope the guilty will be charged. Only then will we as taxpaying citizens begin to regain trust in the government properly managing our tax dollars.
On the international level, while things have settled down in Gaza and the war in Ukraine grinds on, hopefully this insanity will soon end. This Old Soldier wonders how much could be accomplished for the betterment of mankind, if tools of war and money spent were used in a peaceful way. We can only hope and pray for that day!
In closing, while still watching Olympic competition, I noticed Snoop Dogg make several appearances. While I’m not sure what his specialty is, I wonder what the rest of the world thinks.
God Bless our Veterans.
God Bless the USA.
