May 29, 2023 by Paul Trende

The last week of the regular season decided TRC golf titles. In the East, Fillmore Central’s girls notched wins over Wabasha-Kellogg 186 to incomplete and La Crescent/Hokah 187 to 222. Versus W-K in Harmony, Courtney Hershberger (41) was the medalist, followed by Lily Miller, Annika Mensink (48s each), and Myleigh Scheevel (49). Rachel Smith had W-K’s top score (50). Falcons Aubrey Larson and Chloe Morem shot 52s. Versus the Lancers at Valley High Course, Larson, Hershberger and Miller tri-medaled (46s). Morem (49), Mensink (50), and Scheevel (52) followed. Bridget Baumbich (48) was the top Lancer (48). Aaron Mensink’s Falcons (8-0, 9-0) top Caledonia (5-2, 6-2) in the East. It is their ninth straight crown. FC has been 191 or less every meet with a season best 174 at W-K. Meanwhile, the FC boys had a shot at the out-right East crown. They beat W-K 168 to 218. Jake Fishbaugher shot a 37 to medal, followed by Brody Srsen (42), Luke Hellickson (44), Aiden Arnold (45), Brock Sikkink and Anthony Kiehne (46s). The East was then on the line versus LC/H, but the Lancers won 158 to 166. Wyatt Krzoska (35) medaled followed by Fishbaugher (36). Wyatt Ferrell (39) also shot sub-40 while FC’s Arnold (41) was next up. LC/H’s third and fourth golfers Ryan Nutter and Ben Kerska (42s) were also better than FC’s three and four Kiehne (44) and Srsen (45). It was FC’s first loss (7-1, 8-1). Brad Holten’s Falcons won via tiebreaker (169 to 169) in the first match. The teams share the East. FC has been 183 or less all year with their last four scores between 164 and 168. Chatfield’s boys grabbed the TRC-West title by beating D-E 167 to 183 and St. Charles 163 to 188 both at Chosen Valley Golf Course. Carson Harstad (37) was medalist versus the Eagles. D-E had the next two, Michael Pittinger (39) and Carter Boynton (41). Chatfield had the next three, Braxton McCaslin (43), Colton Johnson (43), and Devin Reinhardt (44). D-E’s fourth was Bronson Shea (45). Gage Bartels (48), Brayden Fretland (50), and Kane Larson (51) also shot sub-52 for Paul Wagner’s group. Versus the Saints, Johnson (39) was medalist, followed by McCaslin (40), Bartels (42), Reinhardt (42), Harstad (43), and Fretland (45). Tyler Root was SC’s top golfer (45). Chatfield ends the year perfect (8-0, 8-0). They have shot 181 or less at every match including sub-170 their last three. The girls, meanwhile, beat D-E 217 to incomplete and the Saints 216 to 218. Versus the Eagles, Mya Henry (50) was medalist while Charleigh Larson (54) and Taylor Ask (56) followed. Ask (49) was medalist versus the Saints, followed by Henry (50). Kendall Knutson (57) and Larson (60) also scored for Chatfield. SC’s four scoring golfers were Lily Sullivan (51), Ellie Schram (54), Katie Hoffman (55), and Makena Millard (58). The win avenged Chatfield’s only loss this year. The Gophers (7-1, 7-1) and Saints (7-1) share the TRC-West.
