Boasting last year’s 1A boys and girls teams champions, Fillmore Central golf got off to a strong start to the 2024 season. Each team won its three head-to-heads of the week. At Wabasha’s Coffee Mill Golf Course, the boys topped W-K 171 to 216 while the girls won 188 to incomplete. Aiden Arnold (41) was the guys medalist with teammates Brock Sikkink (42) and Anthony Kiehne (43) not far behind. Connor Hovey (45), Brody Srsen (46), and Josh Haugerud (50) also shot 50 or lower. FC had the top six golfers. Myleigh Scheevel (42) paced the girls’ field. Annika Mensink (46), Lily Miller (46), Savanah Huffman (52), and Maddie Topness (53) also scored sub-55. FC had the top five golfers. The Falcons then hosted a triangular with Caledonia and Cotter at Harmony Golf Course. The boys won 163 to 191 (Caledonia) to 193 (Cotter). Arnold (38) medaled for a second straight meet. Sikkink (40), Haugerud (42), Srsen (43), Kiehne (46), and Hovey (49) shot sub-50. J.T. Hammell (40) paced the Warriors. Evan Milde (48) and Isaac Blocker (50) shot 50 or below. Cotter’s top two were Patrick Morgan (43) and Chase Petschow (48). The Falcon girls won 192 to 217 (Caledonia) to 224 (Cotter). Scheevel (44) again medaled. Mensink and Miller notched 49s. Topness (50) and Huffman (53) were not far back. Caledonia was led by Jazzlyn Hauser (50) and Hayden Harms (53). Kaylee Von Etten (53) was the Ramblers top golfer. FC’s boys and girls each improved to 3-0 in the TRC, 3-0 overall. Caledonia’s team are each 1-1, 1-1. FC’s and Caledonia’s teams then took on the Saturday Hayfield Tourney at the Oaks Golf Course, which also featured “Journal-covered” Rushford-Peterson and GMLO. The Falcon girls shot an 18-hole, 390 to capture the tourney team title over Austin (410), Caledonia (426) and Rochester-Lourdes (427). Six complete gals teams and 11 squads overall competed. Scheevel (93) had the lowest Falcon score. She tied with Caledonia’s Hauser (93) for third behind Austin’s Ailani Thiravong (84) and Hayfield’s Carly Bronson (91). Falcons Ella Dahly (98), Mensink (99), and Miller (100) finished tied for sixth, took eighth, and tied for ninth. Warriors Hayden Harms (105) and Maggie Herman (108), FC’s Huffman (110), finished 12th, 13th, and 14th to crack the top 15. Forty-three girls competed. On the guys side, Shakopee (311) topped Austin (335) and Lourdes (336) for first of 14 complete teams. FC (341) took fourth, R-P (354) sixth, GMLO (388) tenth, and Caledonia (437) twelfth. Lourdes’ Colton Rich (74) and Shakopee’s Tyler Lorenz (74) tied atop the leaderboard. The Sabers had five in the top seven. FC’s Aiden Arnold continued his strong junior-year start, tying for ninth place (81). His four nine-hole rounds this year have all been 42 or lower (and he has two sub-40 rounds). Teammate Sikkink (84) took fifteenth place. R-P had three in the top 20, as Sam LaFleur, Will LaFleur, and Carter Kopperud all posted 87s to tie for 18th place. FC’s Srsen and Haugerud (88’s) each tied for 22nd place to crack the top 25 of an 80-man field. Caledonia’s top golfer, J.T. Hammel (89), took 26th place.
