Girls Golf: Warriors End FC’s Regular Season TRC Streak
Fillmore Central girls golf has been a juggernaut for a decade. They entered the year having won 10 straight 1A titles. They have gone unblemished through the TRC-East the last three years. But that streak came to an end hosting the last team to win a TRC-East title not nicknamed Falcons. Caledonia ended the FC’s division streak by winning a match in Harmony 178 to 185. The Warriors were better at the top and deeper. Jazzlyn Hauser (43) medaled and Hayden Harms (44) took second. Maggie Herman (45) and Emersyn Klug (46) rounded out the Warriors four scoring golfers though Ellison Harms (50) also shot 50 or below. FC was led by Lily Miller and Myleigh Scheevel, who posted 45s. Maddie Topness (46) and Annika Mensink (49) were their other two scoring golfers at the match played at Harmony’s par-36 golf course. Last year’s outings between the two teams saw FC win 192 to 217 at home and 187 to 211 in Caledonia. Scheevel (44, 41) and Hauser (50, 49) led the teams respectively at each event. The Warriors (4-0, 4-0) now lead FC (3-1, 3-1) in the TRC-East. Caledonia won its other match on the week by forfeit, as Cotter did not send a team for a meet at MaCalGrove Golf Course. FC topped Rushford-Peterson and La Crescent/Hokah in two other matches on the week (See “Three Rivers Conference Golf” for more).
Boys Golf: TRC-East Begs Competitiveness
Boys golf in the TRC East division this year thus far hasbeen highly competitive. A week of division matchups echoed that point. Fillmore Central and Rushford-Peterson played the closest match. They tied, 172 to 172. It was R-P’s season-low score. Falcon Aiden Arnold (41) medaled with Brody Srsen (42), Josh Haugerud (44), and Brock Sikkink (45) also scoring for the team. Sam LaFleur (42) paced R-P though five more Trojans, Gus Hoiland (43), Jaxson Meldahl (43), Jace Dvorak (44), Kellen Drinkall (44), and Will LaFleur (48), shot sub-50 at Rushford’s par-36 Ferndale Golf Course. At the same time in Caledonia, the Warriors nipped Cotter 182 to 184. Caledonia senior J.T. Hammell (42) was the medalist followed by Carson Klug (43), Spencer Schaffer (48), and Hayden Haase (50). Chase Petchow (44), Carson Ehlenfeldt (46), Cooper Christopherson (47), Patrick Morgan (47), and Logan Fritts (49) all shot sub-50 for the Ramblers at the par-36 MaCalGrove Golf Course. FC then lost to La Crescent/Hokah narrowly in a rivalry match, 163 to 165. Each team shot a season-low. Aiden Arnold (37) again medaled with a one-over-par score at Harmony’s par-36 golf course. Brody Srsen (40), Brock Sikkink (44), and Josh Haugerud (44) were FC’s other three scoring golfers. Connor Hovey added a 49. The Lancers were led by Charlie Wieser and Ryan Nutter, who each shot 38s. Rylee Johnson (43), Theron Hammell (44), Cooper Hill (45), and Landen Tully (45) gave the LCH six with 45’s or lower. The Lancers then topped R-P at the par-36 Valley High Golf Course, though by a bit wider margin, 169 to 190. Wieser (41) medaled with T-Hammell (42), Tilly (43), and Nutter (43) also scoring low. Hill added a 49. Jace Dvorak (45) led the Trojans with Jaxson Meldahl (46) and Will LaFluer (48) shooting sub-50. The week ended with FC topping Caledonia by eight strokes in Harmony, 169 to 177. Warrior J.T. Hammell (38) continued his strong year, medaling for a fourth time in four meets. His scores have been 41, 37, 42, and 38. Coby Hammell (42), Aiden Burns (48), and Carson Klug (49) were the Warriors other three scoring golfers. FC’s top four all were within two shots of each other. Aiden Arnold (41) led the way. His four league scores have been 42, 41, 37, and 41, as he had led FC each match. Brody Srsen (42), Brock Sikkink (43), and Josh Haugerud (43) closely followed Arnold. Connor Hovey and Zach Moren (44’) were just back of that. The East’s standings are thus La Crescent (3-0, 3-0), which has shot three sub-170 scores, followed by FC (2-1-1, 2-1-1, 2-1-1), R-P (2-1-1-, 2-1-1), Caledonia (2-2), Cotter (1-2, 1-2), and W-K (0-4, 0-4).
