GMLOK softball had a nice week, winning three of four games played. Included was taking the four-team Rushford-Peterson tournament. John Fenske’s Bulldogs first downed Houston 10-3 in an SEC game. Senior Emily Miner pitched a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings before an Emily Botcher double ended the effort. Miner pulled the rare double-digit walk/strikeout game in getting the win (7 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 11 BB, 13 K). Lucie Voigt was the best bat, going 5-for-5 (2B, RBI, 3 R). Aspen Kolling (3-4, two 2B’s) also scored thrice. Anna Welsh (2-5 2 RBI, R) also had multiple hits. Lydia Voeltz (1-4) added two RBI and two runs scored. GMLOK then fell to La Crescent/Hokah 3-1. In a 1-1 game, Lancers scored two in the top of the fifth to go ahead for good. Kelsey Kiesau (2-4, 2B, HR, RBI, 2 R) did big work for LCH. Voigt (1-3, 2B, R) and Miner (7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, Loss) carried the Bulldog flag. At R-P’s tourney, GMLOK played a couple close ones. They built a 5-0 lead after two and led 6-0 after 4 ½ versus Goodhue, only for the Wildcats to post a five-run fifth. Goodhue then tied it 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh. GMLOK scored two in the top of the eighth, as Alexys Harwood had an RBI-triple and Kennedy Fenske an RBI sac fly. Goodhue scored one in the bottom and had the tying run at third. A ground-out ended the game. GMLOK prevailed 8-7 in eight innings. Kolling (3-3), Harwood (2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, R), and Voigt (2-3, RBI, 2 R) had multiple hits. Audrey Webster (1-3, R) and Miner (8 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, Win) helped. GMLOK then played Rushford-Peterson for the title (the Trojans beat L/P 8-6 in their first game – See “Softball” for more). GMLOK scored four in the top of the first and never trailed. R-P scored four in the bottom of the sixth to close to down 8-7. The Trojans had the tying run at third base in the inning. GMLOK added an insurance run in the top of seven, and they prevailed 9-7 to win the tourney. Brooke Kolden (3-4, RBI), Voigt (2-5, 2B, 2 R), and Welsh (2-4, 2 RBI) had multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Harwood (1-3, RBI, R), Fenske (1-2, RBI, R) and Miner (1-3, 2 R, 7 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, Win) helped. The Trojans were led by Ellie Ekern (2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Delaney Vaughn (2-4, RBI, R), Brooke Johnson (1-3, 2 RBI), Rebecca Magin (2-4, R), and Ella Woxland (1-3, R). GMLOK improved to 1-0, 3-2. Bulldogs lead-off hitter Voigt was 10-for-16 on the week with eight runs scored. R-P fell to 1-3, 3-4.
