Glen L. Hines

December 10, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal Leave a Comment

Glen, 79, of Winona and formerly of Mabel, Minn., passed away on November 30, 2025.

Glen taught science and math for almost 40 years at Mabel-Canton High School, beginning  in 1969. He and Don Wendlandt designed and supervised the construction of the new science rooms in 1974. Glen first retired in 2003, then taught at Calmar Community College in Iowa, but returned to M-C to teach until he finally retired in 2011. Glen was the coach of the M-C Knowledge Bowl Team for many years and started the “90 Club.” After moving back to Winona, Glen tutored at MN State College SE.

Glen was on the Mabel Ambulance crew for 30 years and was the Scoutmaster for years.

Glen was thoughtful, kind, giving, sincere, humble and loving. His students might add tough, challenging, but fair and helpful. Friends could always count on Glen to be there for them.

Glen married Carol (Schmidt) Hines on October 11,1975. He will be greatly missed by Carol, their three sons and four grandsons: Jeff (Angela) Hines and Michael of Bayport, Minn.; Joe (Jolaine) Hines and Merrick and Royce of Rochester, Minn.; and Jon (Justine) Hines and Russell of North Liberty, Iowa.

There will be a celebration of Glen’s life this summer, 2026. Memorials can be given to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

Hoff Funeral Home of Winona assisted the family.
