Chatfield’s Anna Kivimagi splits the Caledonia double-team of Jovial King (left) and Ava Privet (right) with a pass in the teams’ key TRC East versus West matchup. In a battle of league undefeateds, the Warriors rode Privet’s 25 points and six threes to a 70-41 win. Caledonia is the last undefeated team in TRC play.

Caledonia girls continued their strong season with a couple section 1AA wins. In a matchup of TRC divisions leaders, the Warriors (4-0, 7-2), the East leader, had little trouble in dispatching with Chatfield (4-0, 8-3), the West leader. Cal senior guard Ava Privet hit 6 of 7 three-pointers, pouring in a game-high 25 points while adding 5 rebounds, as Scott Sorenson’s group posted a 70-41 victory. Caledonia led the duration, but put the game away late in the first half. They went on an 8-0 run to end the stanza, expanding a 31-19 lead to 39-19 at intermission. Caledonia’s pressure defense and varied offense were more than the Gophers could handle. Josie Foster (16 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stls) and Paige Klug (12 pts) also hit double figures. Isabelle Schultz (6 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts) helped out. Senior Kara Goetzinger (14 pts, 8 rebs, 3 stls) led Chatfield. She had a big first-half (8 pts, 7 rebs). Shea Jech (10 pts, 9 rebs) also hit double figures. Evy Goldsmith (7 pts, 7 rebs) helped. Fourteen first half Gopher turnovers and a big three-point shooting discrepancy (Cal 8 of 20, Chat 0 of 7) were keys in the game. The Warriors entered the contest having already beaten every TRC-East foe once. Chatfield is their first West opponent. The following Saturday, the Warriors took on Lake City (4-6) at the Breakdown Southern Minnesota Hoops event at Byron. Caledonia built a 36-22 halftime and held off the Tigers for a 68-62 win. The usual suspects did the scoring, as seniors Klug (17 pts), Alexis Schroeder (15 pts, three threes), Jovial King (13 pts), and Privet (11 pts) gave Cal four in double figures. Foster chipped in 8 points. The Warriors (28 of 35) held a huge edge at the free throw line over Lake City (14 of 17). Caledonia (5-0, 9-2) leads the TRC-East over La Crescent/Hokah (4-1, 8-1) and Winona-Cotter (4-2, 7-3). They are the only TRC team without a league loss. PEM (5-1, 7-2) and Chatfield (4-1, 9-4) top the TRC-West. The Gophers rallied by beating Triton (See Girls Basketball).
