Caledonia girls basketball posted a 2-0 week including passing their last biggest TRC hurdle. The Warriors first easily handled W-K (0-10, 0-17) by a 65-21 final. Seniors Alexis Schroeder (16 pts), Ava Privet (11 pts, three threes), and Paige Klug (11 pts, three threes) made double figures. Twelve Warriors scored. The score was 43-8 at halftime. The Warriors second game of the week was a second meeting with rival Cotter (9-2, 13-4). The Ramblers and La Crescent/Hokah still had hope of catching the Warriors in the East. Caledonia withstood a quick Cotter start that had the home Ramblers up 17-8 early. Team Cal fought back to lead 34-32 at intermission. In the second half, Caledonia led by eight (47-39) only for Cotter to get within one (49-48), and they led by seven (66-59) only for Cotter to get within three (66-63). With under 5:00 to go, Isabelle Schultz (two) and Klug (three) scored on back-to-back possessions to extend the lead to 73-65 (4:02). The Warriors went 7 of 10 at the line late. In an up and down game, Caledonia prevailed 82-75. Privet (17 pts, 7 asts), Josie Foster (16 pts, 5 rebs), Schroeder (15 pts), Klug (15 pts), and Jovial King (10 points) gave the Warriors five in double figures. Rambler Clarissa Sauer (32 pts, 5-7 threes, 6 rebs, 7 stls) led all scorers. Ava Killian (14 pts) and Allyssa Williams (10 pts, 11 asts) helped. The Warriors held a huge edge at the free throw line, making 20 of 27 freebies (74%) to Cotter’s 6 of 10 (60%). With the win, the #15 in AA Warriors (12-0, 18-3) have just two league games left and lead La Crescent/Hokah (8-2, 12-7) by two games in the loss column. They’ve earned a share of the TRC-East. Cotter (10-3, 14-5) is in third place.
