Four games into the season, Grand Meadow girls basketball has thus far made life difficult for opposing teams offensively. Ryan Queensland’s group posted two wins on the week, yielding a combined 55 points. Versus Spring Grove, the Superlarks defended with only eight fouls, attacked with only nine turnovers, and hit 5 of 13 treys (38%) in posting a 51-34 win. Lauren Queensland (18 pts, 8 rebs) led the way, with key help from Lexy Foster (8 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts) and Sydney Cotten (8 pts). Kylie Hammel had nine points to lead the Lions, which fell to 1-3, 2-3. GM’s other game was in Decorah for the Border Battle versus Turkey Valley. The Larks led 18-16 at half, but held the Trojans to five second half points, including out-scoring them 19-1 in the third quarter. GM won by a final of 41-21. Foster (17 pts, 6-9 FGs, 7 rebs) led the charge, helped by L-Queensland (9 pts, 7 rebs) and Kendyl Queensland (8 pts). The wins left GM (2-0, 4-0) as the only “Journal 11” girls team still unbeaten. Through four games, Lark opponents are averaging 23 PPG shooting 20% from the field and 11% from three.
