Grand Meadow girls basketball started the season with six wins. Ryan Queensland’s group has won six in a row again. Included were two key 1A wins. At FC, a 20-20 halftime tie gave way to a 38-29 GM lead (3:21). FC then scored seven in a row to close to 38-36 (1:08). The Falcons forced two turnovers in the final minute, but missed two game-tying shots. Senior Rebecca Hoffman sank two free throws with 9.3 seconds left to ice the GM win, 40-36. GM out-shot FC 37% (16 of 43) to 27% (14 of 52) but had 22 turnovers to the Falcons’ 13. Six straight GM possessions late ended in turnover (prior to Hoffman’s makes). Sydney Cotten (9 pts, 3-8 threes), Lexy Foster (9 pts, 7 rebs), and Lauren Queensland (8 pts, 6 rebs, 5 asts) led GM. Regan Hanson (9 pts, 6 rebs), Abby Bothun (8 pts, 4-5 FTs), and Kammry Broadwater (4 pts, 6 rebs, 5 asts, 6 stls) paced FC. The West second place Larks (10-1, 14-2) then smacked East co-leader Lanesboro (8-2, 12-3) by a 63-40 final. GM held Burro 1,000-point scorer Kaci Ruen (4 pts, 8 rebs, 4 blks) to four total shots. Frosh PG Jensyn Storhoff was held to three points. The Larks hit seven first half threes and got out in transition to lead 35-19 at intermission. Kendyl Queensland (15 pts, 6-12 FGs, 3-6 threes, 6 asts), Foster (15 pts, 10 rebs), and L-Queensland (13 pts, 3-6 threes, 10 rebs) did work. Cotten added 8 (pts), 5 (rebs), and 7 (asts). Jessie Schreiber (16 pts, 9 rebs) paced the Burros, whose five-game win streak was snapped. GM ended its week handling M-C 67-31. Foster (22 pts, 9-12 FGs) and L-Queensland (17 pts, 7-10 FGs) were efficient. Cotten (5 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts, 5 stls) helped. Kinley Soiney (11 pts) and MaKenzie Kelly (10 pts) led M-C. GM (11-1, 15-2) trails Kingsland (11-0, 14-4) in the SEC-West. M-C fell to 4-8, 6-11.
