Final TRC girls basketball standgs had Caledonia (14-0, 25-4) win the East over Cotter (12-3, 18-10), La Crescent/Hokah (10-5, 15-12), Rushford-Peterson (7-7, 18-11), and Fillmore Central (2-12, 13-16) while in the West PEM (12-3, 18-10) topped Chatfield (10-5, 17-10), Dover-Eyota (7-8, 13-15), St. Charles (5-10, 12-15), Lewiston-Altura (3-14, 5-22), and Wabasha-Kellogg (0-15, 2-26). With three of the four “Journal-covered” TRC teams finishing well above five-hundred, each gets multiple All-TRC selections. The TRC-sweeping Warriors get five: Ava Privet (5’11” senior G), Alexis Schroeder (5’4” Sr. G), Paige Klug (5’10” Sr. F/G), Jovial King (5’10’ Sr. F), and Josie Foster (5’11” sophomore G/F). Privet, Schroeder, and Klug each earned their third All-TRC designation, while King moved up after being All-TRC HM twice. Foster earned her first selection. Keyed by her sweet three-point shooting, Privet led the Warriors in scoring by averaging 14.6 PPG hitting 83 total threes. She scored 17.1 PPG and hit 54% of her long balls in TRC play. Privet hit multiple threes in a game 21 times including five-plus six times. Schroeder averaged 9.9 PPG. She hit 45 threes including multiple 11 times. Each topped 1,000 career points this past season. Klug averaged about 10.0 PPG hitting 53 total threes. She hit multiple in a game 14 times. King averaged 9.4 PPG while leading the Warriors in rebounding (around 6.0 RPG). If there was such an award, Foster would be the TRC’s 6th Person of the Year, as she averaged 10.9 PPG and around 5 RPG in less than 18 minutes a game. The fivesome pulled off the rare feat of each having scored at least 19 points in a game. Isabelle Schultz (5’6” Sr. G) made All-TRC HM as a glue distributer guard. Said girls led the Warriors to the 1A title game and a 25-4 season. TRC-West second place Chatfield, which had a nice season, gets two All-TRC picks; Kara Goetzinger (5’9” Sr. F) and Anna Kivimagi (5’5” Sr. G). Goetzinger averaged a team-best 16.5 PPG and 8.2 RPG while shooting a strong 48.5% from the field. She scored in double figures in every game. She earned her third All-TRC selection and (unofficially) finished with 974 career points. Missing a couple games late in the season (plus the COVID-year) kept her from becoming only the fourth Lady Gopher to cross 1,000 career points. Kivimagi was a strong stat-stuffing and defensive guard who averaged 11.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 3.6 assists steals per game. She led the Gophers (and was one of the best in the TRC) in assists and steals while making 75 of 97 free throws (77%). Kivimagi was All-TRC HM last season. Making All-TRC HM for Chatfield are Evy Goldsmith (5’6” Jr. F/G > 11.0 PPG, 5.9 RPG, team-best 34 of 95 threes made, 36% clip) and Shea Jech (5’10” Sr. F > 8.3 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 46% FGs). Rushford-Peterson’s two picks are Kaylee Ruberg (5’10” senior F) and Ellie Ekern (5’6” Jr. G). Ruberg repeated as All-TRC after averaging a team-best 14.7 PPG and a team-best 7.4 RPG while adding 2.8 SPG. She shot a solid 46.5% from the field, 70% from the free throw line, and hit 34 threes. The five-year player scored in double figures in all but two games (8 and 9 points) and unofficially finished her career with 1,465 points. Ekern had a break-out year, averaging 14.6 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 2.5 APG, and 2.9 SPG. She led R-P in steals and was second in scoring and assists. Ekern shot 45% from the field, 77% from the line, and a strong 40% from deep, hitting a team-best 54 of 136 threes. Making All-TRC HM for R-P is Tayler Helgemoe (5’10” junior F > 8.9 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.3 BPG). Said girls led R-P to their best season since the Koop/Crawford/Skalet bunch in 2016-2017. Fillmore Central gets just one All-TRC pick, Kammry Broadwater (5’10” Jr. F/G). FC’s most versatile player, Broadwater averaged 8.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 4.4 APG, and 3.6 SPG. She led FC in rebounding, assists, and steals while finishing third in scoring. Broadwater moves up after being named All-TRC HM last season. Making All-TRC HM this season are Abby Bothun (5’10” Sr. G/F > 9.6 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.7 SPG) and Madison Simon (5’10” Sr. F > 8.6 PPG, 4.4 RPG). Bothun led FC in scoring while Simon was second.
