Girls Basketball: Caledonia Takes Broom to TRC, Wins 20th Game
The TRC-East girls’ basketball title was decided a while ago. A win over Cotter/Hope Lutheran on January 23 clinched a share and a win over R-P on February 2 earned an outright title for Caledonia, their fourth straight (one shared). Scott Sorenson’s group posted two wins the last week of the regular season to notch a 14-0 league season, and they got to 20 wins. Caledonia took care of Holmen in non-conference action, 63-46. With her tenth game of 30-plus-points, Aubrie Klug scored 34 (four threes) to lead the way. Jessica Stendel (10 pts) and Nicole Banse (9 pts) helped. Hosting Fillmore Central, the Warriors rolled to a 33-9 halftime lead in a 64-22 win. Klug scored 25 (4-12 threes) including 20 in the first half. Ashlyn Reinhart (11 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts, 4 stls), Banse (6 pts, 4 rebs, 4 stls), Peyten Felten (5 pts, 6 rebs, 4 stls), and Kensey King (5 pts, 10 rebs) helped. Norah Nagel (7 pts, 6 rebs) led FC. Caledonia has now won 29 straight TRC games dating back to a loss to FC in February of 2024. The Warriors (20-8) are 1AA’s 4-seed, will host 13-seed La Crescent/Hokah (9-17). FC (6-8, 13-12) is 1A’s 6-seed, will host 11-seed Kingsland (5-19). FC has gone 1-6 without center Sophia Bronner (season-ending injury).
Girls Basketball: Trojans Finish With Three Win Week
Rushford-Peterson’s girls finished off a good regular season with a 3-0 week. On Monday, they redeemed an 87-85 overtime loss to Fillmore Central. Joe Hatch’s Trojans jumped out 19-3. The lead was down to 27-21 at the half, but the Trojans scored the first eight points afterward for a 35-21 lead. They won 54-35. RP shot better everywhere; 31% (21 of 68) to 20% (11 of 54) from the field, 19% (6 of 32) to 11% (2 of 19) from deep, 75% (6 of 8) to 55% (11 of 20) from the line. They also held a 17-2 second-chance-points edge. Alannah Skalet (16 pts, 4-11 threes, 5 rebs), Torryn Schneider (15 pts, 5-5 FTs, 10 rebs), and Nadia Happel (12 pts) did work. Norah Nagel (11 pts, 8 rebs), Kyla Hellickson (7 pts, 7 rebs), and Madi Zwart (6 pts, 7 rebs) led FC. The Trojans then topped Houston 58-49. The ‘Canes led 24-21 at the half, but R-P won the second half 37-25. The Trojans had 13 turnovers, Houston 23. Happel (16 pts, 7-8 FTs, 5 stls), Skalet (11 pts), Addison Drinkall (11 pts, 3-6 threes), Schneider (10 pts, 6 rebs), and Kaia Loney (6 pts, 17 rebs) led R-P. Hurricane Aubry Boldt scored 23 points (11-15 FGs, 6 rebs) to lead everyone. Avery Kingsley (15 pts, 5-10 threes) and Jorja Meyer (6 pts, 7 rebs, 6 asts) helped. The Hurricanes (7-5, 10-15) are 1A’s 8-seed, host 9-seed Faribault B.A. (8-16). R-P then beat La Crescent/Hokah 76-47, hitting 7 of 14 threes (50%). Emily Helgemoe (7-10 FGs, 5 rebs) and Schneider (4-4 FTs, 7 rebs, 4 asts) each scored 17. Skalet (10 pts, 7 asts), Happel (9 pts, 5 rebs, 6 asts), Loney (9 pts, 5 rebs), and Ava Helgemoe (7 pts, 10 rebs) helped. Winners of 11 of 13, the Trojans (8-5, 17-8) are 1AA’s 9-seed, play at 8-seed D-E (16-10).
Girls Basketball: Burros End the Year on Four-Game Streak
Lanesboro’s girls followed a big win over Hayfield/SA with three more wins to finish out the season winning four in a row. Versus Houston, Lanesboro led 33-22 at the half and later 56-43 (4:30). The Hurricanes rallied with a 11-1 run. Aubry Boldt scored and made it 57-54 (0:48). Houston had two empty possessions down three in the final minute. Jensyn Storhoff hit two free throws (0:07.7) to make it 59-54. The final was 59-57. Storhoff (21 pts, 14 rebs, 6 asts, 6 stls) and Cora Mayer (19 pts, 9-13 FTs, 14 rebs) led the victors. Elianna Cassmann added 9 points (3-8 threes). Boldt (20 pts, 9-17 FGs), Jorja Meyer (14 pts, 9 rebs), Avery Kingsley (10 pts), and Rylee Boldt (10 pts, 8 rebs) led Houston. Lanesboro hit 16 of 31 free throws (52%), Houston 8 of 16 (50%). The Burros then led St. Charles 36-19 at the half in a 63-46 victory. Storhoff (16 pts, 7-10 FGs, 5 rebs, 4 asts), Hailey Erickson (15 pts, 7 rebs), and Cassmann (10 pts, 7 rebs) hit double figures. Jentrey Schreiber added 8 (pts), 5 (rebs), and 5 (asts). At Grand Meadow, Lanesboro led 43-30 in the second half only for it to be cut to 53-52 courtesy of back-to-back Gracie Foster threes (1:57). Erickson then scored two Burro baskets, the second after a third offensive rebound, to make it 57-52 (1:00). Down 57-54 in the final 0:10, GM could not get a shot up, as the Burros prevailed by that final. Threes made favored the Larks 6 of 20 (30%) to 2 of 15 (13%). Turnovers favored the Burros 13 to 18. Erickson (20 pts, 9-14 FGs, 7 rebs), Mayer (14 pts, 7 rebs), and Storhoff (8 pts, 10 rebs, 7 asts, 4 stls) led Lanesboro. Foster (21 pts, 7-12 FGs, 4-8 threes) and Naomi Warmka (16 pts, 15 rebs, 7 asts) did work for GM. Winners of four straight, the Burros (9-3 in the SEC, 16-10 overall) are 1A’s 7-seed, host 10-seed Alden-Conger/G-E (12-12).
Three Rivers Conference Girls Basketball (2/10 & 2/12)
Chatfield 55, PEM 54 (C: G. Schroeder 27 pts (5-15 threes); Addison Johnsrud 11 pts (3-4 threes); Amaya Harmening 3 pts, 15 rebs. PEM led 43-31 (8:22). Schroeder scored eight straight points to get the Gophers back in it at 43-39, but the Bulldogs also then led 48-40 (under 5:00). Chatfield then scored 10 straight points, Johnsrud hitting a three to cap it and put the Gophers up 50-48. PEM then scored six of eight points to lead 54-52 (0:20). Out of the timeout (0:07.3), Schroeder hit a high-arching go-ahead corner three that proved the game winner. Chatfield ended the game 24-11, PEM with nine turnovers in the final 8:22. Each team had 27 turnovers. The Gophers avenged a 55-45 loss to the Bulldogs just four days prior)

Southeast Conference Girls Basketball (2/9 – 2/13)
Grand Meadow 57, LeRoy-Ostrander 37 (GM: Gracie Foster 12 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts; Naomi Warmka 10 pts, 8 rebs, 9 asts; Paisley Kolling 9 pts. LO: Maria Almaraz-Nolt 14 pts, 10 rebs; Mabel Johnson 9 pts, 7 asts; Kendall Olson 8 pts. GM hit 9 of 24 threes (38%) to L-O’s 3 of 14 (22%) with 13 turnovers to L-O’s 21. Sweeping the season series, GM ended an eight-game skid.)
Southland 50, Kingsland 16 (K: Jaelee Hagtrom 6 pts. Each team scored a season low)
Spring Grove/Mabel-Canton 50, Southland 57 (SG/MC: K. Soiney 20 pts, 7 rebs; Siri Konkel 12 pts; Lauren Hammel 12 pts. The Rebels (11-1 in the SEC, 21-4 overall) clinched the SEC title, denying the second place Lions (9-3, 15-8) a share of it. SG/MC outscored Southland from the field, but the Rebels hit 18 of 19 FTs, the Lions only 2 of 6. SG/MC had only 17 points at halftime and then trailed by 12 before rallying to lead late. But toward the end, Southland hit 8 of 11 shots and 4 of 4 FTs.)
Non-Conference Girls Basketball (2/10 – 2/14)
Spring Grove/Mabel-Canton 63, Crestwood 65 in Double-OT (SG/MC: K. Soiney 17 pts, 15 rebs; S. Konkel 14 pts, 8 asts; Izabel Kaufmann 11 pts, 7 rebs; Kylie Hammel 8 pts, 10 rebs, 3 blks; Brinley Middendorf 6 pts, 8 rebs. Both teams hit 6 free throws and shot 25 for 75 from the field, but the Cadets had two more three-pointers. There were nine lead changes, but never more than a seven-point spread and the score was tied 10 times, 47-all at end of regulation.)
LeRoy-Ostrander 30, Faribault B.A. 44 (LO: M. Almaraz-Nolt 9 pts, 9 rebs)
Hayfield/Schaeffer Academy 51, Fillmore Central 47 (FC: N. Nagel 17 pts (6-6 FTs); A. Daniels 11 pts, 5 rebs, 4 stls; H. Vaalemoen 11 pts. FC led 23-17 at the half, gave up a 15-5 run out of intermission to trail 32-28. FC got within two at 47-45 (1:41), but Viking Maggie Hansen scored (1:23) to make it 49-45, then made a free throw (0:27.9) to make it 51-47.)

Loyola hit two free threes to lead 52-47 (0:12.1). Olson hit a three (0:05) and Loyola had an in-bounds turnover, but the Cardinals did not get a shot up in the final 0:01.3 seconds)
