Gary Wilhelmson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Gary Allen Wilhelmson, born July 15, 1954, was a lifelong resident of Spring Grove, Minnesota. He passed away on September 7, 2026, surrounded by those he loved on the family farm he called home.

Gary’s life was deeply rooted in family, service, hard work, and faith. He spent 26 years working as a nurse at Mayo Clinic – Franciscan Skemp, where he cared for others with dedication and compassion. He was proud to serve his community for more than 25 years through the Spring Grove Fire Department and Ambulance.

The family farm was a place Gary truly loved. He found peace in caring for his beef herd and in the familiar rhythms of country life. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Some of his favorite memories were made on hunting and fishing trips with his grandchildren, when simply being together was just as important as the hunt or the catch. Gary also enjoyed the simple moments spent with family and friends, whether telling a good joke, sharing a laugh, or sitting down for a game of cards.

Above all, Gary cherished his wife Lori and the life they built together. His children and grandchildren brought him great pride and joy, and he treasured the time they shared as a family. He was especially proud to have recently become a great-grandfather and to see the family he loved grow into another generation.

Gary’s faith was also an important part of who he was. He was dedicated to his church and worked to carry that faith into his daily life and the way he treated others.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife Lori Wilhelmson, his children Mark Peterson (Amy), Quintin Wilhelmson (Sarah), Brook Nagel (Nathan), Derrik Peterson, Daron Peterson (Amber), and Bryan Wilhelmson (Becky); his grandchildren: McKena, Neva, Gavin, Owen, Kelcy, Brady, Avery, Phoenix, Sawyer, Walter, Ole and Freyja; his great-grandson Bryar, his sister Linda Moen (Gerald), and many special nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ragnald and Lucille Wilhelmson, and by his infant daughter Jodi, who remained a special angel in the hearts of her family.

Gary will be remembered for his devotion to Lori, his love and pride in his family, his service to his community, his connection to the farm and outdoors, his humor, and the faith that guided his life.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pastor Mark Abelson will officiate.

Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the church sanctuary, and from 10 until time of services at the church on Saturday.

Roble Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
