
Mid-Southeast Blue Football (9/16)
Rushford-Peterson 19, Kenyon-Wanamingo 14 (R-P: G. Hengel 13-91, 2 TDs rushing, 3-15 receiving; Jonah Bunke 13-102 rushing; Riley Tesch 8 of 15, 120 yards, TD passing; Sampson Wilkemeyer 3-73, TD receiving; Dalton Hoel 2-32 receiving. R-P had first and goal trailing 14-13 in the fourth, but fumbled. One series later, Tesch hit Wilkemeyer for a 54-yard pass play that set up a 1st and goal at the 1-yardline. A Hengel 1-yard TD run proved the game-winning points. K-W’s last possession got to the Trojan 20-yardline, but was stopped there. The Knights (2-1) were getting votes for a state ranking. K-W’s two scoring drives gobbled up 119 yards. Their other eight drives mustered just 49 yards. R-P out-gained K-W 311 to 173 including 191 to 88 on the ground. Southland 7, Kingsland 48 (K: B. Wiersma 15-339 yards, 2 TDs rushing; K. Reiland 4 of 7, 61 yards passing, 10-152, 3 TDs rushing; Mason Kolling 6-50, 2 TDs rushing; Parker Johnson 2-48 receiving. Behind Wiersma, the Knights rolled up over 500 yards rushing. They had three long TD runs, Wiersma 85 and 65 yards, Reiland 85 yards. P-Johnson led the defensive effort with three sacks. Wiersma and Caden Reiter had interceptions. Rebels gave up 500-plus yards on the ground a week earlier to Lanesboro as well. Rebels > 0-3. Wabasha-Kellogg Tourney (Rushford-Peterson went 5-0 overall. They beat St. Anthony 2-0 (25-14, 25-22), Goodhue 2-0 (25-22, 25-18), and Medford 1-1 (25-20, 21-25) in pool play, then LeRoy-Ostrander 2-1 (25-14, 21-25, 15-10) and Wabasha-Kellogg 2-0 (25-22, 27-25) in tournament play to claim the title. L-O went 1-4 overall, beating Lanesboro 1-1 (25-7, 21-25), losing to W-K 0-2 (17-25, 24-26), and Houston 1-1 (25-23, 22-25) in pool play. They then lost to R-P 1-2 (14-25, 25-21, 10-15) and Goodhue 0-2 (25-27, 20-25) to take fourth. The Cardinals are 4-3, 6-10. Lanesboro went 1-3 overall, beating Houston 1-1 (22-25, 25-16) while losing to L-O 1-1 (7-25, 25-21) and to W-K 0-2 (17-25, 18-25) in pool play. The Burros fell to Medford 0-2 (16-25, 16-25) in the consolation bracket. Lanesboro is 4-2, 7-7. Houston went 1-3 overall, beating L-O 1-1 (23-25, 25-22) while losing to Lanesboro 1-1 (25-22, 16-25), and W-K 0-2 (9-25, 16-25) in pool play. Cross Country (9/15)
Rochester-Mayo Invite (Stillwater Area (94) bested Eastview (102) for the girls’ team title. Chatfield (284) took 10th and
Kingsland 20th (of 21 full teams). Mayo 8th grader Abigail Tri (18:24) bested Luverne’s Jenna DeBates (18:31.47) for individual champion. Chatfield’s Lexi Kivimagi (19:21.67) and Aletta Strande (20:14.91) took ninth and 26th respectively (of 137 total runners). On the boys side, Rosemount (27) bested Stillwater Area (56) for the team title. Chatfield took 20th and Kingsland was incomplete (of 21 complete teams). Onalaska’s Manny Putz (14:56.26) bested Stillwater’s Ryan Kilibarda (15:30.92) for the individual crown. Putz won the Luther College Invite on September 10. Kingsland’s Cole Kruegel (16:53.73) was the top “Journal 11” runner, as he took 31st. Teammate Garrison Hubka was running well, but couldn’t complete the race. One hundred fifty runners competed. Each race was 2.95 miles)
