Outcomes are often determined by free throws missed and made, and the Spring Grove girls put on a free throw shooting exhibition at Spring Valley on Dec. 6. But the game belonged to Kingsland, which never trailed during a 70-51 decision versus the Lions. Unlike the previous game in which Spring Grove rarely made it to the foul line, the Lions cashed in on 25 of 29 free throws. But they only scored 26 points from the field.

The Knights shot a hot 39% (9 for 23) from 3-point range, where they scored 27 points to go with 28 points from inside the arc. The Lions did not score beyond the arc, but they only aired up six attempts (0 for 6). Again, unlike the previous game, Spring Grove was able to take the ball inside with the dribble and draw fouls. When not fouled, the Lions did not shoot well and managed only six offensive rebounds. Kingsland decisively won the battle beneath the backboards, 37 to 23. Ball-handling was acceptable with only 12 turnovers for each team.
Down by 19 points late in the first half, the Grove girls were back within 14 at halftime (31-17) and opened the second half with an 11-to-2 run to make it a fiuver-point game at 33-28. But Kingsland called timeout and took control again with a 15-to-1 scoring streak. It began with a five-point trip down the floor when Anika Reiland scored while being fouled on a drive inside. She missed the free throw, but Brook Lecy rebounded, and the possession ended with a Hauser nailing a 3-ball.
The home team would later lead by as many 23 points, plenty enough to withstand an 11-point Lion run. It was the eighth straight win for the Knights in a series they lead 9 wins to 3. Kingsland, the defending SEC West Division champion improved to 2-0 (1-0 SEC). Spring Grove left at 0-2 (0-2 SEC) after facing both the defending East and West Division champions.
The Lion B-team enjoyed a 35-22 victory, while the seventh graders came up three points short, 17-14.
