The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Houston County Environmental Services Office are offering free manure sample analysis and manure spreader calibration in certain townships of Houston County.
Feedlot operators working in Black Hammer, Caledonia, Mayville, Spring Grove, and Wilmington Townships can take advantage of the program and use the information to estimate nutrient availability for next year’s crop season. All manure types can be analyzed, and all manure spreader types can be weighed and calibrated.
Upon completion, feedlot operators will receive a simplified, nitrogen-based plan that closely estimates the nitrogen availability of a typical load of manure. This information is useful for estimating the amount of commercial nitrogen fertilizer needed next spring.
Please call Bob Scanlan, Coordinator with MDA at 507-458-4842 or Jeremy Burt, Houston County Feedlot Officer at 507-725-5800 to schedule an appointment.
Jeremy can do manure spreader calibration at no charge for any producer in the county (all townships). He does not have free manure tests available.
