Second-ranked Caledonia did not need its offense in a week seven game versus PEM. The defense won it alone as the #2 in AA Warriors continued their perfect season. Carl Fruechte’s “D” scored three times, or three more times than the Bulldogs’ offense. All three came in the second quarter. Lewis Doyle (40-yard interception return), Owen Denstad (40-yard fumble return), and Gabe Curley (32-yard fumble return) each authored non-offensive scores. Denstad now has three defensive scores on the year, Doyle two, as the Warriors have six. Their efforts helped Caledonia score 35 second quarter points on the way to a 42-0 first half lead. Team Cal prevailed by a 48-0 final.
Offensively, Owen Staggemeyer (4-68, 2 TDs rushing), Denstad (5-44, TD rushing), Ethan Stendel (7 of 11, 70 yards, TD passing), Josh Beardmore (2-47 receiving), and Doyle (4-yard TD reception) did work. It was the Warriors third shutout of the year. Their defense has scored more points (36) than it has given up (34), yielding just 4.9 PPG! The #2 in AA Warriors (5-0, 7-0) head to their season finale versus La Crescent leading Cannon Falls (4-1, 6-1) atop the Southeast-White standings. Chatfield (3-2, 5-2) lost to D-E and sits in third place.
