In a 14-14 game in the fourth quarter, Sampson Wilkemeyer hooked up with Jaxson Meldahl for a 50-yard one-handed behind the head TD pass. The scoring play propelled Rushford-Peterson to a 20-14 lead over Lewiston-Altura. The Cardinals had two chances thereafter, but never made Trojan territory, as Davin Thompson’s group got the win via that 20-14 final. Wilkemeyer (8-15, 123 yards, TD, INT passing, 9-27 rushing), Jonah Bunke (16-71, TD rushing, 2-47 receiving), and Meldahl (2-63, TD receiving, 6-17 rushing) led the way. The latter also had an 85-yard kick-off return TD. R-P never trailed in the game, leading 6-0, 14-6, and by the final score. They out-gained L-A 255 to 140. L-A’s first score came via near back-to-back 30-yard plays. The second occurred after a Trojan fumble deep in their end. The Cardinals also got the conversion to make it 14-14 in the third quarter. R-P (3-4, 3-4) has now won three in a row after a 0-4 start versus teams that are a combined 22-6.
