Football: #1 Warriors Roll Saints for 2-0 Start

September 18, 2023 by Paul Trende Leave a Comment

Senior running back Owen Denstad started the game with an interception followed by a TD run. He accounted for four total scores. Ethan Stendel averaged over 20 yards per throwing attempt and accounted for two scores. Lewis Doyle topped 100 yards receiving.  Caledonia football used its speed to easily take down St. Charles 47-6 in a Southeast-White matchup. After a 6-6 start, the Warriors blanked the Saints while rolling up 41 unanswered points. Denstad had just six offensive touches to score four times (5-60 yards, 3 TDs rushing, 71-yard TD reception). Stendel was super efficient (8 of 12, 243 yards, TD passing, rushing TD) at QB. Doyle (4-121 receiving) was his top target. The duo hooked up for four 20-plus yard completions. Owen Staggemeyer (3-33, TD rushing), Josh Beardmore (2-34 rushing, 1-20 receiving), Jack Schmitz (4-34 rushing), and Jack Klug (1-yard TD run) also got in on the action. Cal racked up almost 500 yards offense without a turnover. Mason Banse (12 total tackles) led the defensive effort. An Owen Maloney to Christopher Hilton 6-yard TD pass was the Saints’ only score in the first quarter. The Warriors improved to 1-0, 2-0. They are tied atop the Class AA polls with Barnesville.

Caledonia’s Owen Denstad comes down with this interception early in the Warriors Southeast-White matchup with St. Charles. Denstad scored four total TDs (including turning this turnover into six via a TD run for the game’s first points). The top ranked (tie) Warriors whipped the Saints 47-6 to improve to 2-0 overall on the year.
