Finstad Statement on Vote to Re-Open the Federal Government

November 17, 2025 by Commentary Submissions Leave a Comment

Brad Finstad

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 12, 2025, Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to end the longest shutdown in United States history and reopen the federal government after over 40 days of uncertainty. The House also passed three full-year appropriations bills, including funding for agriculture, military construction, and veterans.

Today’s vote represents a much-needed step toward returning to common sense legislating and serving the American people. While this temporary funding measure provides short-term stability, it also underscores the pressing need for Congress to pass the remaining full-year appropriations bills that reflect fiscal responsibility and the priorities of hardworking families.

“Today’s vote finally ends the Democrats’ needless shutdown and the politically motivated pain they inflicted on the American people. It’s now up to Congress to finish the job by delivering a long-term budget that strengthens our national security, supports rural communities, and restores confidence in how Washington does business,” said Rep. Finstad.

Background:

  • Reopens the federal government and restores funding at current levels through January 30, 2026.
  • Provides short-term stability while giving Congress time to finalize FY 2026 appropriations.
  • Includes full-year funding for select areas such as the Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, the Department of Agriculture, and the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Prevents immediate disruption to key services and programs while maintaining fiscal discipline.
  • Allows federal employees and contractors to return to work and resume normal operations.
