At the September 23 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad reported that 276 out of 277 students were represented by parents or guardians at the elementary back-to-school conferences. The high school open house was also well attended with many students turning in paperwork and picking up their computers. “It was successful at both the open house and the conferences,” Olstad commented. The homecoming coronation was held on September 22 with a great homecoming week full of fun activities planned. The Fastbridge testing at the elementary school was recently completed with 79% of 4-6 grade students scoring in the low-risk range.
Fifty-nine children are currently enrolled in the One Block at a Time daycare and 50 in the SAC program. “The numbers for daycare and SAC are high and our program is strong,” Superintendent Olstad commented.
Deb Ebner was hired as the ECFE assistant for the Preston sessions and Kay Himli as the ECFE assistant for the Harmony sessions. Deb Ebner was also approved for extra hours to assist with clerical needs in the district office. Samantha Russell was hired as the daycare lead teacher, and Heidi Kingsley, Kaelyn Peters and Tara Morem were hired as SAC assistants.
The proposed 2025 levy was approved at the maximum allowed amount. It was noted that the final amount can be lowered at the Truth in Taxation meeting in December, but can’t be raised. The Truth in Taxation meeting will be held on December 16 at 6:01 p.m. in the Preston meeting room with the regular board meeting to follow.
Several extra people volunteered to be judges for the upcoming election. A resolution was passed to accept the additional volunteers for election judge positions.
The teacher advisor roles for the 2025-26 school year were reviewed and approved.
A Memorandum of Understanding with Education Minnesota was approved with the district.
The next meeting was scheduled for October 28, but there could be a section volleyball game that night so it was moved to Monday, October 27 at 6:45 p.m. to allow for the extended voting hours that evening.
