Fillmore Central

At the June 23 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad extended gratitude to the local banks for continuing the mini grant program; $10,500 was awarded to Fillmore Central. The Strength and Agility program is going well this summer with over 100 students participating. Multiple windows at the elementary school in the fifth and sixth grade hallway are being replaced. Summer rec has been going well, and ECFE is working on prepping for the upcoming sessions.

Resignations from daycare employee McKenzie Dachel, support staff Kari Schroeder, and custodian Ryder Witte were accepted. Witte was also approved for a pay increase retroactively from May until his resignation date due to him earning his first class boiler’s license. Kristy Holets was hired as the daycare lead teacher, Richard Kincaid and Marissa Topness as high school science teachers, Katelin Mensink as a substitute daycare aide, Rich Kincaid and Gunner Benson as volunteer football coaches, Breanna Dietrich as a substitute custodian, and Graysen Ostrom as a summer rec coach. Logan Corson was approved for tenure. Elementary library assistant Sonia Bockoven was approved for 60 hours this summer, Sara Niemeyer for 40 additional hours to complete literacy curriculum writing, and Micki Breitsprecher for five additional days of pay. Ryder Witte was approved for up to 64 hours to supervise at the ALP summer school. Contracts with Health Olstad as superintendent and high school principal and Jim Peters as elementary principal were approved as were contracts for the custodial staff, support staff, and in-house substitute David Broadwater. Hourly wage increases were approved for van drivers, and community ed, SAC, daycare, and preschool staff. The substitute teacher pay was increased. There were no changes made to the pay of substitute secretaries, paraprofessionals, or custodians.

The board reviewed the operating budget for the 2026-27 school year with district business manager Darla Ebner as well as the projected Taher budget for food service. Both were approved.

The first reading of the K-6, 7-12, Faculty, Paraprofessionals, Mentoring, Coaches handbooks and Restrictive Procedures Plan for 26-27 was completed.

The admission fees and sports season passes were approved for the upcoming school year at the same prices as last year.

A $200 transfer from the Angel Fund was approved to cover elementary supply fees for families who need assistance with those costs.

Superintendent Olstad was approved as the district representative for the federal programs Local Education Agency Representative and Homeless Liaison. The district’s Cardiac Emergency Response Plan was also approved.

Resolutions for the election of school board members, calling for the school district general election, and establishing filing dates were passed as well as a resolution requiring the tally of write-in votes only if they are higher than a ballot candidate’s total votes.

The district’s property and liability insurance from Minnesota Insurance Scholastic Trust was renewed as was the workers comp policy with First Dakota Indemnity. Rates for both were decreased from last year. Memberships with the Minnesota School Board Association, Southeast Service Cooperative, and Minnesota Rural Education Association were renewed.
