At the February 24 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, the board approved the agenda and the minutes from the January 27 meeting. The monthly claims were also approved. Treasurer Sue Sikkink noted that scholarships were given out on February 16, and also that a donation was received from the Preston Fire Department, allowing each student at the elementary school to receive a free book during I Love to Read Month.
Superintendent Heath Olstad gave the school, athletic director, and community ed reports. I Love to Read month has been going well at the elementary school with dress-up days each week and reading calendars. Congratulations were given to the fifth and sixth grade Math Wizards. Team One placed second overall in the recent competition. Fifth grader Porter Mathison placed 10th in the individual competition. Sixth grade student Landyn Mathison placed 10th, Carter Bockoven 9th, and Sophie Woelfel placed 2nd.

On March 14, a speech contest will be hosted at the high school. The Large Group band and choir competition will be held at the high school on March 16. Congratulations were extended to One Act Play for placing as sub-section champions. Resignations were received from Stephanie Strahl and high school art teacher/yearbook advisor Sarah Hutchison. Alex Gulbranson was hired as the assistant speech coach, Karlie Deyo as a SPED paraprofessional, and Ben Starr as the JV baseball coach.
The board reviewed and approved the 2026-27 school calendar as recommended by the calendar committee. The first day of the next school year will be on September 1, 2026. For the next two years, legislation allows schools in Minnesota to start before Labor Day if they wish as long as the start date isn’t in August. Superintendent Olstad noted that another staff development day will need to be added to the calendar, but it’s still being decided if it should be added before the first day of school or after the last day.
A resolution allowing Superintendent Olstad to authorize staff members to have the appropriate access for their assigned job duties to the State of Minnesota Education systems was approved.
A posting was approved for some lawn mowing and trimming services at both the elementary and high school locations. The custodial staff will continue to do a majority of the lawn care at both sites, but hiring some of it out will give them more time for indoor work.
