More than 60% of the Fillmore Central School District voters from Fountain, Harmony and Preston approved a proposed new referendum for general education revenue by $876 per pupil, subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation. The referendum will be first levied in 2025 for taxes payable in 2026 and applicable for 10 years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.
For the city of Rushford, there will be some changes to the city council at the start of 2026. Leigh Volkman had previously served as a council member, deciding to run for mayor when Terri Benson chose not to run for another term. Running unopposed, Volkman won with 94% of the 217 votes. Volkman will move from his council seat to the position of mayor in the new year.
Sally Ryman chose not to run again with her term ending December 31, 2025, and Andrew Linder’s seat was up for re-election. Andrew Linder ran again and retained his seat with 41.33% of the votes. Nick Smith claimed Ryman’s open seat with 32.07% of the votes. Judi Pronk earned votes from 26.37%. Smith will join Linder on the council next year. With Volkman moving to the position of mayor, there will be an open seat on the council, which will be up for discussion at future Rushford City Council meetings.
