Fillmore Central

Superintendent Heath Olstad reviewed the upcoming start of the 2025-26 school year with the Fillmore Central board at their regular August 26 meeting. Parent/teacher conferences will be held on the first two days of school at the elementary building just like in previous years. Olstad noted that that format has been well received by parents and staff, and that it seems to work well. Nineteen students are participating in cross country this fall, nine in cheerleading, 69 in football, and 32 in volleyball. Streaming has been set up and has already been used for some games. A student athletecard fundraiser raised $16,000, and many donations have been received from individuals and local businesses. A grant from the Preston Area Community Foundation made it possible to purchase new preschool curriculum. Summer school was a successful program with good attendance and thanks were extended to the summer school staff.

In her report to the board, Angi Kaase noted that the daycare and SAC kids have been able to get outside frequently this summer and have participated in a lot of fun activities.

Seventeen children attended the early childhood screening. There is an extensive waitlist for the daycare, and the staff continues to communicate any changes to parents.

Amanda Jansen was hired as the cheer coach, Karen Skratta as a SPED para, and Connie Lindstrom as a high school teacher. A resignation was accepted from SPED para Alison Freese. The non-certified staff assignments were approved as well as additional hours for SPED staff Amanda Thomas.

The truth and taxation meeting was scheduled on December 16 at 6:01 pm at the elementary school which will be followed by the regular board meeting.

An agreement with Benevity giving Keeley Todd, Darla Ebner, and Heath Olstad authority to create and manage the district’s account was approved. The annual contract with SE Technical in Winona was renewed as was the annual membership with SEMNET and the annual PSEO contract with RCTC.

A resolution was passed appointing board members as election judges for the November 4, 2025, school district special election.

A water heater purchase from Al Larson & Sons for the high school was approved. The quote includes removal of the old heater.

Several open enrollment requests were accepted. Jim Peters was approved as the Literacy Lead for the district. A foster care transportation contract with Fillmore County was approved.

The certified staff members of the staff are able to be reimbursed $60 for each credit hour for approved or required graduate work. Nine requests for this reimbursement were received this year as well as five requests for salary schedule lane changes. All were approved.

The meeting was closed for Superintendent Olstad’s evaluation.
