Fillmore Central Approves Purchase Agreement with City of Preston

November 2, 2026 by Hannah Wingert Leave a Comment

At the regular October 27 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad noted that the Facility Committee has been meeting to review the potential purchase agreement with the City of Preston. The agreement will allow the city to purchase land at the elementary site to build a new swimming pool for Preston.

Superintendent Olstad extended congratulations to the Fillmore Central FFA members and FFA Advisors Kelsey Biel and Kayla Koch for their dedication and hard work, which paid off at the FFA National Convention. The students did very well at the convention, both individually and as teams.

Veterans Day programs will be held on November 11 at both the elementary and high school buildings. Parent/teacher conferences will be held on November 9. The winter sports sign-ups have been completed, and there are 53 students signed up for boys basketball, 23 for girls basketball, and 36 for wrestling.

The daycare is still working towards expanding with a sixth room which is currently pending the fire marshal’s approval. ECFE has a number of events coming up this fall and winter which can be found on its Facebook page.

The winter coaches were hired and included Andy Todd, Will Nolan, Quincy Burland and Matson Kiehne as boys basketball coaches, Levi Olstad, Jason Schwarz and Pat Severson as girls basketball coaches, Kerry Rindels and Chad Finseth as girls volunteer coaches, Blaise Sass, Phil LaFleur and Joe Cullen as wrestling coaches; Joel Pfeffer, Erik Bengston, Holly Knutson, Cal Prigge, Nate Henry, Cole Sass, Tyler Schoon, Joel Thomas, Caleb Fischer and Walker Ward as volunteer wrestling coaches, and Jackie Whitacre as the One Act Play and speech coach. Matthew Albert was hired for the custodial staff, Karen Winter as an assistant in One Block at a Time daycare, Beverly Hahn as a daycare teacher, and Krista Schultz as a driver for the FFA National Convention. A resignation from SPED para Kaelyn Peters was accepted.

The third-quarter donations totaling $29,963.66 were accepted with gratitude for the generosity of the donors.

The board is required to hold a meeting to canvass the election results before November 14. It was decided to set the canvassing date for November 12 at 7 a.m. in Harmony. The regular meeting for November was also moved to that date and time for a combined meeting.

A purchase agreement with the city of Preston was reviewed and approved with the understanding that if the referendum vote doesn’t pass or another site is chosen by the Pool Committee, Fillmore Central will retain the land. The agreement was also amended to include verbiage about sharing the proposed pool parking lot for baseball games.

Fillmore Central’s current fixed asset threshold is set at $5,000 for a single unit and $50,000 for combined. As the federal threshold was recently increased to $10,000 for a single unit, the board approved a motion to also change Fillmore Central’s. The combined unit threshold will remain the same at $50,000.

A Minnesota State High School League, or MSHSL, resolution for a Form A grant to offset student activity fees was approved.

An open enrollment request was approved by the board.

Recently, a drainage issue was observed in the corner of the elementary parking lot. The PVC drainage pipe had separated and caused a significant amount of erosion. Al Torgerson of TLC Excavating was able to reconnect and extend the piping and also restore the landscaping of the eroded area.
